Question:
Is the following hadith valid, that it was narrated from ‘Ubadah bin ash-Shamit Radhiyallāhu ‘anhu, that the Prophet sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam taught the companions of Radhiyallāhu ‘anhum this prayer when Ramadan came:
Oh God, protect me from Ramadan, give Ramadan to me, and accept it from me.
Allāhumma sallimnī min ramadhan wa sallim ramadhan lī wa sallimhu lī mutaqabbilā (Meaning: O Allah, save me for Ramadhan, save Ramadhan for me, and save it for me in a state of edict. [amalku])”?

Oh God, protect me from Ramadan, give Ramadan to me, and accept it from me.
“Allāhumma sallimnī li ramadhān wa sallim ramadhān lī wa tasallamhu minnī mutaqabbilā (Meaning: O Allah, save me for Ramadan, save Ramadan for me, and accept it from me in a state of acceptance [amalku])” does not have authentic sanad that goes back to the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam.
However, it was narrated from a number of Salaf scholars that they used to pray prayers that had the same meaning.
The answer: Praise be to Allah, peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, and afterward: Al-Tabarani narrated in “Al-Du’a” (912) with the chain of transmission on the authority of Ubadah bin Al-Samit may Allah be pleased with him who said: Rasulullah SAW used to teach us these words when Ramadan came, one of us said: O Lord, keep me away from Ramadan, and keep Ramadan for me. He received it from me. The phrase “Save me from Ramadhan” is stated in the form of “O God, protect me from Ramadhan” as expressed by Al-Dhahabi in “Siyar Alam Al-Nubala”. Then Al-Dhahabi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It is strange, and Khalaf is unique in saying this. Abu Jaafar Al-Razi was Issa bin Mahan, and he was a theologian in his preservation and memorization. Al-Dhahabi, Abu Zur’ah, Al-Nasa’i, and Ibn Hajar have said about it which shows the weakness of his memorization, and Saleh bin Kaysan did not arrest Ubadah bin Al-Samit, as stated by Al-Tirmidhi, may Allah have mercy on him, and Ubadah died some time before Uqbah. This prayer is narrated as mursal on the authority of Al-Hasan Al-Bashri, and narrated in a long report by Ibn Abi Al-Dunya in “The Virtues of Ramadan”, and the chain of transmission is unknown and weak, and some of the methods are mursal.

All praise to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala and prayers and greetings are poured out to Rasulullah Shallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam. As for next. Ath-Thabrani narrated in the book Ad-Du’ā number 912 with its sanad from ‘Ubadah bin ash-Shamit Radhiyallāhu ‘anhu, he said.
“The Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam taught us these sentences when Ramadan comes – that is, for one of us to say,
Oh God, protect me from Ramadan, give Ramadan to me, and accept it from me.
‘Allāhumma sallimnī min ramadhān wa sallim ramadhān lī wa tasallamhu minnī mutaqabbilā (Meaning: O Allah, save me for Ramadan, save Ramadan for me, and accept it from me in a state of acceptance [amalku]).’”
The editorial “Allāhumma sallimnī min ramadhān (O Allah, save me for Ramadan)” is also narrated with the editorial “Allāhumma sallimnī lī ramadhān” as mentioned by Adz-Dzahabi in the book Sales of A’lām an-Nubalā’then Adz-Dzahabi said that this hadith was garib and was only narrated alone by the Khalaf.
Abu Ja’far ar-Razi, namely ‘Isa bin Mahan, was a narrator who was criticized for his accuracy and strength of memorization. Adz-Dzahabi, Abu Zur’ah, an-Nasa’i, and Ibn Hajar said about him several judgments that show the weakness of his memorization.
Salih bin Kaisan also did not get to meet ‘Ubadah bin ash-Shamit as confirmed by At-Tirmidhi, and ‘Ubadah died before ‘Uqbah for a long time.
This prayer is also narrated mursally from Al-Hasan Al-Bashri, and narrated at length by Ibn Abi ad-Dunya in the book Fadh’il RamadhanHowever, in the sanads there are unknown narrators and weak narrators, apart from the fact that some of the lines have the status of mursal.
The conclusion is that this hadith does not have a valid sanad that can be attributed to the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam.
However, a prayer with this meaning was narrated from a number of early generation ulama that they used to say it. Among them is the history brought by Ath-Thabrani with a sanad which is clearly considered good, from Makḥūl, that he used to pray when the month of Ramadan had arrived, “Allāhumma sallimnī liramadhān wa sallim ramadhān lī wa tasallamhu minnī mutaqabbilā (Meaning: O Allah, save me for Ramadan, save Ramadan for me, and accept it it is from me in a state of acceptance).”
