Hallucinations and invisible facts: registration in religious and science perspectives

The phenomenon of appearance is something that we often hear. We all know a lot of stories about spirits roaming, jinn, or other invisible figures that exist in various cultures, religions, and films. This further strengthens the beliefs of many people about the existence of these creatures. However, with the rapid progress of science, many people begin to associate this phenomenon with psychological conditions. Therefore, you want to explain more deeply about this appearance, both from the word religion and as hallucinations in the world of science.

In Surah Al-Baqarah Verses 2-3, Allah SWT. say:

That the writer is not a reason to be a gift for people who are people who believe in people who are invisible and they will pray

It means: “This book (the Qur’an) has no doubt in it;

In Surah Al-Arafat verse 27, Allah is Almighty. employ

He builds, as long as the slave as long as you leave heaven, and he will be moved from them to their politicians to see them. He sees you and his tribe from where you don’t see them

It means: “O Adam’s grandchild, don’t be fooled by the devil because he has released your parents from heaven by taking off their clothes. In fact, he (the devil) and his followers saw you from a place that you could not see. Indeed, we have made the devil (as a helper for those who do not believe.”

From the two verses it can be explained that the faith in things that are not visible to Pangens are one of the main characters of those who are pious. In this case, unseen creatures that cover angels, jinn, as well as various invisible cases, such as the Day of Judgment and Life after death (Orcihida Handyana Firdausi Nuzula, et al., 2024: 121-122). Of course the existence of jinn or devil which is a creature created by God has lived side by side with humans but with different realms. Which, occasionally the devil shows themselves intentionally to interact with humans.

According to Ibn Abbas, Jin is a creature that lives on earth, while angels are creatures that inhabit the sky. Both types of creatures play a role in prospering their respective homes. Each layer of heaven is inhabited by angels who always perform prayers, glorify, and pray to God. Thus, Jin is known as the inhabitants of the earth, while angels are the inhabitants of heaven (Rismawati Hikmawati & Muhammad Saputra, 2019: 138).

On the one hand there is the development of modern technology and knowledge about looking at this appearance based on scientific logic and research. Where science explains the problem of this appearance by looking at how the work process of the human brain. Where the appearance in science is often called hallucinations. Takers said that hallucinations are a sign of mental disorders, where individuals experience changes in sensory perception. This condition is marked by the emergence of fake sensations such as listening to sound, seeing, kissing, or feeling even though there is no real stimulation from outside (Novriadi Novriadi, 2024: 91).

Then according to Fresh, there are various factors that can explain why someone feels seeing ghosts. This can be caused by hallucinations or impressions as if we see something that actually does not exist, Pareidolia is like the tendency of the brain to recognize shapes such as the face of the dead object or random pattern. Since the days of our ancestors, the story of the appearance of not visible beings has become an inseparable part of culture and trust in society. In Islam itself believes in the unseen like jinn, angels, and nature after death is a foundation of non -negotiable beliefs. Where the Koran clearly mentions their existence as explained by Surah Al-Baqarah verse 3 which mentions the characteristics of pious people are those who believe in the unseen. As for Al-A’raf verse 27 which reminded that Satan can see us from dimensions that we are not aware of.

Meanwhile, from the point of view of modern science assume that the phenomenon of appearance is more often explained as a form of hallucinations. Psychology states that the appearance is the result of human perception itself. Which this can occur due to stress, trauma, or mental disorders. In addition, phenomena such as Paleidol And the distortion of memory also strengthens scientific explanations about why a person can feel the presence of supernatural beings.

Thus the appearance of supernatural beings can be seen from two complementary sides. Where from the perspective of religion, the appearance is part of the existence of supernatural beings whose existence must be believed by people who believe. Meanwhile, from the point of view of science this phenomenon is the response of the nervous system and human perception. Which both gave complementary understanding of the mystery that had long been part of human experience. Wallahua’lam Bisshowab.
