The story of a religious meeting between Imam Ibn Malik and Imam Ibn Mu’thi

There is one of the books that is excellent among Islamic boarding school students in Indonesia. The book is Nadham Alfiyah Ibn Malik, where the book is one of the many books that become compulsory material for students who want to master Arabic grammar to support the skills of reading the yellow book.

The name of the book, is actually taken from the name of the author, Syaikh al-‘allâmah Abû ‘Abdillâh Muhammad Jamâluddîn Ibn Mâlik At-Thâî or famous as Ibnu Malik, who is a prominent ulama of Arabic grammar experts and comes from the Andalusian country (currently Spain).

The Book of Alfiyah Ibn Malik itself is a summary of the Book of Al-Kafiyah Asy-Shafiyah who got a lot of praise from the scholars. In addition, Shaykh al-‘allâmah Abû ‘Abdillâh Muhammad Jamâluddîn Ibn Mâlik At-Thâî, in the preparation of the Alfiyah book had a pretty interesting story, which previously Shaykh Ibn Malik had the confidence that his work had the advantage of the work of Alfiyah Ibn Mu’thi, Nadzham brought this;

And God is aware of his mouth ¤ Debt of the person who contains him.

And I ask Allah for the Book of Alfiyah, who can include all the material of nahwu science

The shortest is carried in a mixed memory, and vulgar is bound by a successful dimension

Bringing a distant understanding with a concise lafadz and can provide a detailed explanation of a short time

It requires satisfaction with sake

This book demands a will without anger, outside the book of Alfiyah Ibn Mu’thi

In the stanza above, Shaykh Ibn Malik wants to explain to the reader that the work written by him is superior to the previous book of scholars, namely Yahya Ibn Abdil Mu’thî Ibn Abdin Nur Az-Zawâwi al-Maghribi or Ibn Mu’thi. In the book of Hasyiyah Al-‘allâmah Ibn Hamdûn ‘ala Syarhil Macûdî Li Alfiyati Ibn Mâlik told, after that Ibn Malik continued with the stanza:

…… .. displayed for him with a thousand houses

Uploading it “by Ibn Mu’thi” with a thousand stanzas…….

Not only perfect when entering the stanza finished written, suddenly Imam Ibn Malik stopped spontaneously. Ideas and inspiration for the ideas disappeared, unable to write what was about to continue. The atmosphere of this kind of empty thought even lasted for several days. Until then he fell asleep, and in his sleep he was met by someone. In his dream there was a conversation that was previously not mistaken by Imam Ibn Malik.

“I hear you are composing Alfiyah about Nahwu Science?” asked someone who was present in his dream

“That’s right,” answered Ibn Malik.

“Where?”

“Famaqatan Lafi Binit… “

“What makes you stop finishing this stanza?”

“Suddenly I did not have power for several days,” he said again.

“Do you want to finish it?”

“Yes, I can finish it.”

Then the orange in his dream connects the old verse for him with a thousand houses

“Living people can sometimes conquer a thousand dead people“.

This sentence is a satire to Ibn Malik for his pride (‘Ujub) of the Alfiyah Book of his work which is considered better and perfect than the previous author who has died. For him it was a hard slap that hit the feelings of an Alfiyah author. After hearing the string of the temple Ibn Malik asked while confirming,

“Are you Ibn Mu’thi?”

“That’s right.”

Ibn Malik was converted and embarrassed. In the morning he suddenly threw away the unfinished stanza and replaced it with two more perfect muqaddimah stanzas:

And that is a parallel predecessor that will exist

“He (Ibn Mu’thi) is more special because he is earlier. He has the right to my extraordinary pride. “

And God will judge and die

“May Allah bestow his broad carrun“.

The story above reveals the message that no one can think of his knowledge absolutely superior to the previous ulama. The description of Ibn Malik in his Alfiyah may be more complete and detailed from Ibn Mu’thi’s work, but the predecessor work remains more important because it gives the basics of pioneering to the next ulama essay.

In an adhats mentioned: è èbuuukum khaiun is not abrosom qiâlimah (thetrodut from the first [pelopor] better than the next generation to the Day of Judgment). The story also reminds us of the importance of remaining in the same time. The peak achievement of certain achievements, no matter how great, it becomes low when addressed with a chopper. Ibn Malik had slightly slipped in that direction, then immediately improved. As a result, his work continues to flow knowledge and blessings, like a spring that continues to radiate until now.

In addition to the story mentioned above, in the book of Alfiyah Ibn Malik has a very extraordinary stanza. The stanza teaches anyone to not give up in dealing with problems. The verse is at number 309 which reads;

Cheese from hypocrites

“S.really I will never give up from the battle that is raging, Although enemies come for herds “.

The stanza pieces give a signal and motivation to the students or anyone who wants to memorize the Alfiyah book not to give up easily, even though it has just entered the 300th verse and must exceed 900 stanzas to be completed and perfect in completing the memorization of the Alfiyah Ibn Malik Book.
