Revitalization of Pancasila values in the midst of digital politics polarization

The Society 5.0 era, which was introduced by Japan, marked a new development in the relationship between technology and society. In this era, technology such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of things (IoT), and Large data Used to improve the quality of human life, answer social challenges, and create a human centered society. (Usanto et al, 2023). According to Al-Rodhan (2008), globalization which is interpreted as international integration through the exchange of information, views, products, and culture accelerates this process. Public spaces are now shifting into the digital domain such as social media, where people are free to express their opinions. Although this reflects freedom of expression as part of human rights, in reality there is often abuse, such as the spread of hate speech, intolerance, to political polarization that damages the values of democracy.

In facing the challenges of this digital era, the values of Pancasila need to be revived. Pancasila is not only the basis of the state, but also a moral and ideological guide that is able to maintain social harmony, respect human rights, and build healthy democracy. Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKN) plays an important role in internalizing values such as tolerance, justice, deliberation, and unity to the younger generation, both in real life and digital interactions (Nugroho, TT). Furthermore, the teachings of religion in Indonesia that uphold love, justice, and brotherhood, have harmony with the values of Pancasila. All religions reject division and hatred. So, the synergy between Pancasila, PPKN, and religious teachings becomes a collective force in counteracting the negative impacts of the digital era.

Pancasila, Human Rights, and Democracy: Relationships that strengthen each other

Pancasila, Human Rights, and Democracy are the basic values that complement each other. The first principle, the Almighty God, guarantees religious freedom and becomes the foundation of ethics in carrying out democracy (Judijanto et al, 2024). Human rights are not carried out freely without limits, but in the corridor of spiritual responsibility. Meanwhile, PPKN teaches the equality of citizens’ rights and obligations, in line with religious values such as justice (Islam), love (Christianity), and Dharma (Hindu). Students are guided

Become a citizen who not only understands his rights and freedom, but also socially responsible.

With the integration of religious and PPKN values, Pancasila is a unifying tool in building just and civilized democracy. Human rights are not only individual rights, but must be used wisely for the common good.

Political Polarization in the Digital Era: Challenges for Democracy

The digital era caused a shift in public space to social media, which gave rise to the phenomenon of sharp political polarization. Polarization excludes differences and fertilizes hoaks, hate speech, and social divisions. This is contrary to the basic values of Pancasila such as unity and deliberation. PPKN teaches the importance of actively and ethical participating in political life (Annas et al, 2019). But this participation must be accompanied by responsibility for maintaining unity and diversity. On the other hand, religion also teaches peaceful principles such as ukhuwah, love, and tolerance all contrary to political polarization and fanaticism.

For this reason, the integration of religious values and PPKN is very necessary so that people are able to use digital media wisely, not easily provoked, and continue to uphold the value of healthy democracy.

Revitalization of Pancasila as a solution

  1. Pancasila faces digital polarization

Revitalization of Pancasila is important to face the challenges of digital politics polarization. The first principle emphasizes the value of religion as a guide for life, which is relevant to build tolerance and peace. The second principle emphasizes the importance of respecting the rights of each individual with etiquette and responsibility. The fourth principle guides the community to resolve differences through deliberations, not hostility. This revitalization invites the public to return to the noble values of Pancasila as a guide in using digital space, avoiding hate speech, and building constructive dialogue (Wulandari et al, 2025).

  1. PPKn and the character of democracy

PPKN acts as a vehicle to re-instill the values of Pancasila in the younger generation. Through PPKN, students are taught to think critically, respect differences, and build tolerant and responsible attitudes in socio-political life. PPKN also links the values of Pancasila with HAM. Freedom of expression must be balanced with the responsibility of maintaining social harmony. Democracy is not only about freedom, but also a matter of building mutual understanding and concern (Sulistianingsih et al, 2024).

  1. The role of religion in the revitalization of Pancasila

Religious teachings support the values of Pancasila. Every religion encourages the peace, justice, and peaceful living in a peaceful manner. Religion reinforces the awareness that differences are a necessity that must be respected, not uniform. Through the synergy of the values of Pancasila and religious teachings, the community can form a more tolerant, inclusive and peaceful community. This is important in dealing with the digital era that often enlarges division and reduce the quality of democracy.

Revitalization of Pancasila values is very important to deal with political polarization in the digital age. As a state ideology, Pancasila needs to be internalized in everyday life in order to strengthen unity, justice, and tolerance. Technological advances must be balanced with moral guidelines so that people act wisely in cyberspace. PPKN education plays a role in forming young people who respect differences and are active in responsible democracy. Religious teachings also support the value of Pancasila through the teachings of affection and justice. Synergy between Pancasila, Education, and Religion can create a democratic, inclusive, and peaceful society. Therefore, it is important for all parties to apply these values to maintain social unity and justice in Indonesia.
