Karateka Tebuireng won the championship at the Open Tournament in East Java


Student of MTs Salafiyah Syafi’iyah (MTs SS) Tebuireng, Ahmad Jawwad Irsyadi succeeded in winning the East Java Karate Tournament (Doc. Albii)

Tebuireng.online— Karate athletes from MTs Salafiyah Syafi’iyah Tebuireng, Ahmad Jawwad Irsyadi, successfully won the 1st championship of the East Java Open Tournament Karate Tournament Championship which competed for the Korem 082/CPYJ Commander.

The tournament, which was held at the Majapahit Arts Hall, Mojokerto, on July 19-20, 2025 was attended by hundreds of young athletes from various regions in East Java such as Mojokerto, Jombang, Gresik, and surrounding areas. In the match that lasted for two days, Jawwad managed to record four consecutive wins, two matches on Saturday and two on Sundays, without even losing.

The student from Tanon, Diwek, Jombang revealed that initially he followed karate only as an ordinary sports activity. But the encouragement of the coach and full support from the school encouraged him to try to take part in the tournament.

“Initially joining karate just for sports. But it was told to be told by the coach to join the competition, from the school also supported, Alhamdulillah finally won,” he said the 7th grade student proudly.

Jawwad has undergone karate training for four years under the auspices of Kodim 0814 Jombang. He practices routinely three times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoon, after school. This tournament became his first experience representing schools in an official competition.

“Very happy. Not in vain training so far,” he said.

He also said that his parents gave full support, even motivated him to continue to practice in order to achieve his goals to become a member of the TNI.

“Parents are very supportive. He said so that they don’t often play cellphones at home,” he added with a smile.

This victory is not only proud of him and his family, but also an inspiration for his classmates. The school also welcomed the achievements of Jawwad.

One of the teachers, ChoirurroSidin or familiarly called Pak Udin, expressed his appreciation.

“Very extraordinary. It could be first champion in the province, especially since he was still in grade 7 and this was the first time to take part in the competition. This is very proud. We hope that this achievement can be transmitted to his friends and bring Jawwad to national and even international events,” he said.
